Criteria for Selection

  • A critical mass of NIH grants involving biology of aging, geroscience and/or clinical trials with relevant geroscience outcome measures
  • At least one trainee or junior faculty focused on geroscience
  • Evidence of an institutional commitment to overcoming barriers in geroscience research
  • Commitment to leadership in the field of geroscience
  • Only US-based institutions eligible

Benefits of becoming a TGN Core Site

  • Ability to use all TGN resources including Data Management (TGN as “sponsor”)
  • Voting membership in TGN Steering Committee (1 vote per site)
  • Participate in major TGN decisions
  • Participate in the development and writing of R33 competitive renewals and grants utilizing the TGN infrastructure
  • Academic rate for TGN services with labor costs partly covered by TGN grant
  • Priority in terms of the research queue when it comes to FGA or other TGN services
  • Guidance with geroscience grant submissions and budgetary issues
  • Guidance with IND submissions and related FDA issues
  • Free admission to TGN retreats and other sponsored events for faculty and trainees 

Expectations of a TGN Core Site

  • Cite TGN in all relevant publications
  • Adherence to all TGN policies as regards selection of outcome measures, use of standardized MTAs, biomarker panels, SOPs, MOPs and Biobanking protocols
  • Agree to Single IRB if appropriate
  • Willingness to share data and samples with other TGN sites/studies once appropriate IRB and privacy requirements are fulfilled.
  • Attend annual Retreat
  • Participate in the Steering Committee meetings and other committee/subcommittee work as appropriate.
  • Present research proposals and study findings at TGN meetings and/or Retreats
  • Promote TGN, geroscience, and principals of multidisciplinary team science within own institutions and respective professional organizations
  • Strive to develop a culture of mutual respect and interdisciplinary learning between all the different disciplines contributing to the broader geroscience mission
  • Commitment to diversity in human subject recruitment, leadership and career development issues and the selection of biological approaches
  • Sign a Letter of Understanding
